About the Event

Red Rocket, by arrangement with DALRO (Pty) Limited (www.dalro.co.za), presents ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ by Richard Bean – a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy that blends British farce with live music, physical gags, and outrageous characters.

Based on Carlo Goldoni’s A Servant of Two Masters, this modern comedy classic follows the perpetually hungry and hilariously hapless Francis Henshall as he scrambles to serve two dodgy bosses at once.

Desperate for nothing more than a decent meal – fish and chips, to be exact – Francis finds himself caught in a whirlwind of mistaken identities, misunderstandings, and unexpected twists that send him spiralling.

The result? A tale of chaos, charm, and funny moments you won’t want to miss.

Produced in collaboration with the Waterfront Theatre School, the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and the Cape Town Opera, this production was spearheaded by Matteo Brambilla, the Red Rocket CEO who doubles up as a bass guitar player and has a passion for the arts. Through the play, the independent power producer (IPP) is injecting a different kind of energy at the Homecoming Centre with this production, which was first staged at the UK’s National Theatre to critical acclaim in 2011.

The project is the culmination of the IPP’s year-long immersive mission to explore theatre arts, with the group bolstered by a knack for entering bold new spaces, such as soccer and rugby, already forming part of the culture. Most of the cast and crew are made up of Red Rocket employees. Featuring Red Rocket’s band Jun & the Kilowatts (including Brambilla) and joined by celebrated Cape Town jazz artist Duncan Johnson as Music Director, this ensemble will belt out hits from Grant Golding (from the original play) and some familiar favourites.

The production is a celebration of collaboration, out-of-the-box thinking and a dream that colours outside the lines. It was developed in support of the Cheslin Kolbe Foundation and ASSITEJ South Africa, and through these organisations, is dedicated to being a force for good as well as a crowd entertainer. Get ready to laugh, sing, and cheer as this play brings big-hearted comedy and an even bigger impact to the stage.
